Chet... Hey - welcome to the site - I hear you make "great rods"!! I was up at the Bamboo Rod Festival in Camp Sherman trying to learn something about the art.
Hope to run into you on the river sometime.

    Chet:
Just checked out your website. My mother lives in Lebanon and we will be there this week for Thanksgiving and more. Bamboo poles... Will they hold up to novice beginners like me? I have a couple that have never seen a reel. They are too pretty to get wet.

Pleasure was mine!! Gotta see your shop and resume our conversation on Rods & Boats & "Process". We have the same affliction...
Off to Dallas early this morning - arrgg.... cuts into fishin time!

It needs to be suspended from the passenger seat... it's the only way!!!
    It's perfect.
    I'm obsessing.

I haven't sourced a rail, but it's out there. Gotta be a permanent fixture I think and needs to be bolted pretty securely... there are times when I will be pushing very hard on it... I'll keep tinkering. Sounds like you are a "buildin machine"... I need to come up and watch you work sometime. How bout reels - did you buy that part of the business??
  • Greg Hatten

Cool. I'm figuring out the rail... I found it today at a salvage yard - came out of an old bar... it's too heavy for the passenger seat, so I'm back to the floor. Got a couple of ideas I think you'll like.

Chet... we just added a sign-up for the Boat Parade prior to the Boat Festival... just a little "float" from Finn Rock to Eagle Rock from 10 to 11... you need to be right in the middle of this thing!! Ride in my boat?? I'm the "boat wrangler" at the Finn Rock put-in - should be fun. We'll have 15 to 20 "wooden boats on the water"... GH

Chet... very cool - glad you're coming down for the show... your buddy with an interest in wooden boats will be pretty entertained, I think. No worries about the float... I've got my hands full that morning.
Fishin on Sunday - I'll check with Matt... rivers should be droppin but I think he has parents in town?? I'll let you know.
This hatch is perfect 4wt fishing..

Chet... heard back from Matt - he's out for Sunday. My plans are a little sketchy now anyway... it's raining right now!!! Where is spring????
Let's save the fishin for next Sat... you want to float in my boat for the TU "March Brown" outing?? Matt said he was going to send something out but I haven't see anything yet.

Pleasure was all mine... it was quite a hatch wasn't it?? I really enjoyed the day, thanks for your company. I'm going to take that little 5 wt out today for a spin today - can't wait to try it out (I have a few viles to fill).
    Let's do that again please.

I took your rod out last night and admired it over a glass of wine!! This afternoon, I took it out for a spin. A "one-hour" trip to the river turned into three. I tried two reels on it - my Sage 3300 with Rio floating line (5 wt) and my little gold Loomis with Sharkskin line...
Both worked very well, but I liked the Sharkskin the best and absolutely loved the rod!! Awesome. Really. You got me. I have to build one and now I have a million questions. My plan is to fish this rod every day this week, if that's OK. I'll take good care of it - it's drying out in my office right now - is there anything else I need to know about "caring" for it before or after I fish it??
Caught two nice cuts on it, by the way... a cosmic experience.
    See you on the river.
