Thanks for the comment. I didn't want to "over restore" the Rapid Robert. The outside had very old varnish on it. I scraped what was left of it off and put a very light sand on it. I wanted to keep the 60 years of patina in tacked. The nicks and scratches, old nail heads, and the storys never told are still there. I wanted to make the boat look like a 60 year old drift boat. Which she is.
Hi Jay, you are correct that is the Posse Grounds boat launch. I pretty much fish between there and Anderson. Fishing has been pretty good lately. I bought my boat about 5 years ago in Southern Oregon. The data plate says it was built in 1970. I am not sure of the builder. I added the rear seat (Tatman), the rear knee brace (Boulder Boat Works), and a few other goodies but it is otherwise as it was built. Shortly I will post some more detailed pictures in the forum looking for information on the builder.
Thanks for the Welcome Jay. The oars are 10' in length, I believe they are Spruce but I'm not positive. Very keen eye regarding the river, that is the Nestucca. Picture was taken a month ago, it's a picture of my friends Tatman kit we built over 15 years ago.
Thank you Jay, it was a real pleasure to build and I got to learn a lot from a good friend and found out what an amazing resource this website is. We'll get the shine knocked off the boat this spring and summer and see what next winter brings.
