Hello, you live in a very beautiful place with a great restuarant with a ton of great fishing. Maybe Greg and I should come over and fish and eat at the Cardwell inn. Do you know Larry feight?

Greetings and welcome to a great place.

Road Trip!!!  Tom, you'll make a lot of fast friends on this site if you post your question for general discussion from the group... your next problem will be sorting through so many options and opinions about the boat you should buy, build, or restore....  it's lots of fun.

A great resource is a book written by Roger Fletcher called Drift Boats and River Dories... it has lots of plans, options, and pictures of DB's that serve a variety of fishing needs on the river.  Personally - I love the boat I'm runnin right now a 16' x 48" Tatman Design design out of mahogany and yellow cedar.  It is a steelhead chasin dream machine...  the high bow may work against you over there - I know they make a lot of low sided DB's to run Montana and Wyoming water just because of the wind.

Take care.... there's a pretty cool boat Festival over there on the Snake River on Memorial Day Saturday - good opportunity to talk some trash with some really really great DB guys.

Tom, I worked with Larry for 10 years when we both represented Gallagher Electric Fence products. I covered Eastern Washington while Larry covered Montana.  Yes I do mean the LaHood, I have eaten dinner there numerous times with Larry and others.  I see that Cardwell is your hometown but it looks like you live in California now.  I live in Spokane, Washington but have lived in both Helena and Missoula. I love visiting Montana and consider it almost a second home. I have guided a bit on the Clark Fork and enjoyed fishing the Blackfoot, Upper Clark Fork by the Anaconda Ponds. The Bighorn River is also a great place to fish.

Aside to Greg, yes a road trip should be conducted! How about we start on the McKenzie on Sunday, April 24th and finish about November 1!

Once again welcome aboard, you have found a great place to enjoy wooden drift boats and a great source of knowledge. Between the search function, the forums and the personal pages there is a wealth of information.

    Happy Waves to you!
