i got this stuff at lowes the other day, it sets up in 5 minutes and full cure in 45 minutes. It is an epoxy putty that you just take out of the package and fill the hole and your done. hopefully i will never have to use it, but it seems alot easyer than mixing up epoxy in the middle of a trip.

what's it called? Nice thing to have. I take duct tape! ;-)
there is a picture attachment you can click on below my post to see what it looks like. if you look closely there is a wooden boat on the package
As usual I didn't notice the snake at my feet! I've seen that stuff and have used a variation of it making knives. That's going in the tool box, with the duct tape ;-)
I've also spent some time thinking about the unavoidable rock that I'm going to hit and put a hole in the boat. I was talking with a friend who lives and boats in Fairbanks, AK. He told me the way people up north fix mid-trip holes in the boat was with the toilet bowl wax. It will work in all but the hottest temperatures (never run radiant heat tube to close to a toilet, messy) but assuming your taking on water that shouldn't be a problem. Slap some hundred mile an hour tape over it and your back on the water before you finish your beer.
Anyone ever had any experience fixing a boat with toilet wax???
Wax is an interesting idea. I wonder how you deal with it when you get back home to the shop. How do you get the stuff off, since not much will stick to wax?

I have been on the river with someone who put few holes in the chine and cracked the side. He fixed it with those epoxy sticks. At home he just sanded them out and made a permanent fix.
That stuff is really messy, but I think you could just hit it with a heat gun and sand out the area that that it damaged. might be easier than dealing with the 5 min epoxy.
We race hobie cats, and one fix we use is Marine-tex. But you need an overnight to do it. But you can apply it under water, and in almost any conditions. We always put a piece of plastic over the patch to make it smooth.
I have a roll of this stuff in the bow. unbelievable adhesion. http://www.sureflash.com/tapes.htm
Up here duct tape is called Oregon chrome.
