We are almost done with the interior of our boat.  I'm putting in an entire week to try to get it ready enough to show off at the boat show this weekend.  We definitely won't have time to do any spar varnishing, but there should be two coats of epoxy on everything.  The epoxy book says to wait two weeks to do any spar varnishing, so that won't happen before the show.  Do people think it would be a problem to bring a boat without UV protection (maybe a cover for the drive), or should I just leave the boat in the garage and show it next year?

To refresh memories (if you care), my dad and I bought this boat half-finished (no interior).  It came with a bunch of stuff, including the rope chairs and the floor boards. We took everything out (including at least two iterations of the front and rear decks that were built on top of each other).  Then we painted (blue on outside and inside with brown trim).  The interior cabinets are baltic birch with maple trim stained brown.   We used a water-based stain and have tested the epoxy on it.  Enjoy the pics, hopefully we'll get to show it off this weekend.

It may be too late, I don't know where you live, but I say bring it. I brought my boat unfinished last year. I would love to talk with you about your boxes.

We just couldn't get it done in time. Still working on a few items. I wish we could be there. Next year! My wife and I are spending a month in Driggs this summer. If anybody sees a big blue boat smashing into the shore and generally looking like it is being piloted by a beginner, that's me. Please don't hesitate to say hello.

A few questions for the experts on our finish:

1. The boat came with the plastic bushings for the oar locks but the fit in the bushings is very tight. I really can't get the oar lock all the way into the bushing without fear of damaging it. Are these supposed to be reamed?

2. The boat came with two sets of oar locks. One are standard locks like I see on everybody's boats. One set have swivels and PVC lining on the locks. Which should I use? My oars are all black Sawyers, which are completely carbon except the wood handles. There's no rope or other protection on the oars. I think the previous owner was using the oars with the PVC lined locks. Is this just a matter of preference? I'm assuming that if I used the non-lined oar locks, I would have to wrap the oars with rope, right?

Thanks everybody!
