I just ordered some 9' oars from Barkley and the price was great and the shipping only $45 to Wyoming.

I want to thank everyone for answering my questions on the forum...I've built custom homes for 40 years but this boat is the most challenging project I've ever seen, if it wasn't for the information and inspiration on this forum it would have been a real hack job for sure. I think building another boat now that I have the jigs made up and some working knowledge would be so much easier.

Had to put this picture in of using my dad's old saw to fair the transom, same saw he used to work on his sloop in the 70's, although it was probably sharp back then...I have a pile of power saws but this old handsaw was the perfect tool for this cut...cheers....Pete

I enjoy reading about using tools that have some personal history. My objective is to do the same with tools and materials when I can. It just seems like the right thing.

I have some tools that mean a lot to me...my grandfather's chisel holds the best edge of any of my tools...it still has a hickory handle I made when I was a kid...and the wood in the boat is important also...the cherry frames came from our woods in NYS...I cut the timber and hauled the wood to Wyoming 15 years ago...the white oak was a gift from a wonderful family whose home I built 5 years ago...and the walnut came from an old friend and customer...that tree was cut down to make room for a large gambrel barn I built him...the lumber from that was a surprise gift when I moved west...

The history of your wood shows nice connections and an appreciation for materials.

I have some recycled mahogany plywood, teak grates, and teak and holly floorboards from a sailboat that was built in 1979 but didn't do well with Hurricane Juliette in La Paz. From the house (built in 1950), there are some old growth cedar 2" by 10" planks that will make it into a build.

It is nice to have wood on hand with special history.
