I think that anyone who owns an old boat tries to find out about the boats history. I've been lucky in some respects, but I've still got a 20 year gap I'd like to fill.
The pics are from old editorials or adverts. None feature Cygnus but are no less interesting for all that.
This one is page one from a two page feature. Has anyone got page two? The internal layout of our salon is completely different. We have the larger, 30HP, Coventry 'Godiva' engine, and the doorway into the cabin is on the starboard side rather than the central door shown. As you can see, the layout in the picture gives a place to cook and eat, and little else. Our layout has the galley moved for'ard, into the space between the salon and the 'V' cabin. All good stuff!
Just to show how things change. When the boat was delivered new, she came with a manual of the engine that covers everything! The gearbox (hydraulic, which I think is dead cool for a boat designed so long ago) manual contains a full set of blueprints! The toolkit contained everything needed to strip the engine including pullers to remove the cylinder liners and all sorts of other bits. I don't ever want to use any of them, but if I need them, they're still on board. Happy days...
Apparently used in an advertising campaign for silencers!
This last one is part of Geo Wilsons advertising campaign. How I wish I'd got one with two engines.
I've done a few articles about boating and camping. If you want to have a look they can be accessed through
