I am currently building a 16 1/2 Tatman. Where is the best place to drill a hole for a drain plug?
Are there any special methods in doing so?

Alright Dave you sold me on it... maybe not right away - but I will look into getting it done soon. I was thinking about rinsing the boat out being a pain without a plug...
No plug in my boat and it's going to stay that way. A full day float in the rain means using a manual bilge pump. Usually no more than once on a 6 hour drift and it only takes 5 minutes. There is no doubt when it's time to pump. BEFORE the boat does not respond any longer to my oar strokes.

if there is any standing water at days end it gets pumped after the boat gets on the trailer. Once home it gets shopped vac'd and terry toweled. Usually, the next day I'll remove the floor boards and warm water wash and dry. If the boat is super dirty I'll roll it back out of the garage and hose it down then shop vac and towel. That takes nearly an hour.

It makes me feel better to know I paid attention to all the nooks and crannies that want to hold sand, dirt and other gunk. Plus, I'm always dropping a beer, swivels, sand shrimp or you name it. Over the years I've been had more than once by my wife, "what is that smell in the garage". I figure I might as well get the cleaning done from the get go.

I have had that 3am alarm go off in my head telling me I have not completed my chore. That sucks. Maybe plugs are a good idea. Nah
