Im planning on putting one through the bottom of the Transom on my next boat. That seems like a better option then through the floor.

I have done both the transom plug and one  in the floor right behind the front seat, i like having it right in the middle of the boat where water collects. The problem with having it up on the transom end is that it is hard to get water out if it rains and you get gallons of water inside, you have to figure out a way to raise the front way up to get the water to drain out the back. If it rains all day you can get a lot of water in there, I think the main reason for having the drain plug in the back by the transom is because it will be above the water line so it wont matter if it leaks or something, but i wont do it that way again because it doesnt get the water out unless you park it on a hill or soemthing.

Exactly what Eric said.

 

I started putting my drain plugs (sometimes 2 of them!) in the middle of the boat.  When the boat is on the trailer, the lowest spot is soemwhere right in the middle of the boat, right behind the front seat.  Put that drain plug off to the left or right, or smack dab in the middle where you can keep an eye on it.

 

I had a 16DET with a drain plug on the floor at the transom end of the boat.  That was awful.  Had to de-trailer the boat to drain it.  We ended up putting 5200 on that plug, it doesn't come out, and installed a new one in front of the rower seat.
