My next project is nearing completion. A New Brunswick friend thinks they are more appropriately called "drift bootss. To wit --

The two hulls measure just under 4' in length and are scaled replicas of the original McKenzie double-ender with transom:

However, I decided to outfit the "boot" completely:

I have crafted the oars and oarlocks (wood, of course) but they were curing as I took these pbhotos. I may post them tomorrow.

A glass shelf with lay in just under the knee locks but the boat can be displayed as a piece in and of itself,

Or as a piece of furniture --

In order, my next projects will be the Rapid Robert, the Trapper and the Rogue dory. My goal is to replicate each of the 13 boats I have "recovered" at this scale -- IF I live that long. Har. As Oregon's unique contibution to wooden boat design these boats tell the evolutionary story of the early drift boats and river dories on their spawning grounds, the McKenzie and the Rogue, and they will deserve a home that believes in the value of preservation and posetrity. At least I think they do.
