Quick Question...
How long do you usually need to wait between applying a coat of epoxy to bare wood and then applying the finish varnish coats? When I did my boat it sat for many weeks after the sides were epoxied - but I wondered what the minimum amount of time that was needed for the epoxy to become stable enough to coat over...
This depends on temperature, speed of resin/hardner,humidity etc. Not dodging the questuion but be positive that the resin is fully cured. Some varnishes/resin combinations don't seem to work well. I would wait several days before getting on the varnish. You might try a little "sample" What you don't want is a partial cure on the resin . Put varnish over it and you might end up with a real mess. I have used System 3 and Captains/Flagship varnish with good results.
Good Luck
Yeah that is what I used on my boat before - System 3 then Captains 2015 over that. I didn't really consider the cure time last time because it sat for like a month before I varnished it anyways. I will epoxy then give ti a week or so to be safe. Thanks for the info.
Jason, I am using System 3 products also. Their marine Spar polyurethane says to wait two weeks on the can long time when one is on a roll with building. Glen- L had a forum with the owner of System 3 last summer but that was not covered . Was also told by someone ?? that when the weather was warmer etc that only needed to wait 5 days. Most of the times I wanted to go faster it ended 2 weeks later anyway. I also have used Epifanes varnish with good results on a front porch park bench ,white oak and System 3 clear coat and the Epifhanes. steve
