Hey all,
Just thought I would post a few pics from a recent trip.
The boat is taking us to some great places that are holding some wonderful fish. I enjoy rowing the boat around as much as I do fishing. I want another one. (shhh)
These images are from the AuSable here in the mitten.
Spent a couple days on the river with the boys. Been really itching to get back out, but since I am stuck at work until further notice, I will post a few pics. Think we might venture out in a week or so to the Big Manistee. (A year ago this coming weekend we launched the boat for the maiden voyage on that river).

Well if you ever decide to come up, I would be happy to show you around, take a float if you have time. I think you would enjoy the AuSable, it has many faces depending on what you are in the mood for.

I will take you up on that. I have some friends from near there that are big-time into flyfishing and that's all he talks about. he's down here right now to see his daughter so i'm going to take him to our measly trout water. I am finishing a 16' McKenzie and I promised to trailer it up there and him show me what that area has to offer.
That's a nice Brown by the way.

Very nice work there brother. Great write-up and great fish.
Steelhead are in the valley and we're catching them on the McKenzie and the Willamette. Hope all is well.

Glad to hear the fishing is treating you well out there... I am already itching to see some steel, but it will be a couple months before the first real push of the fall fish make their way in from the big lake. We do have some summer run steelhead but I have yet to target them (soon I hope!)
We will be chasing trout for a while and doing the relax camping/fishing trips. Hoping to get Christine on the water with me next weekend...
By the fall I am hoping to be swinging some steelhead flies on the spey rod (taking lessons and in the process of getting a setup put together - good fun!)

Looks like a great time. Last week I spent 3 days floating the "Canyon" section of the South Fork of the Snake River in Eastern Idaho. Had a wonderful time. We are right in the middle of the MEGA hatch. Salmon Flies, Golden Stones, Yellow Sallies, Green Drakes, PMD's and even this year still some BWO's. Its a great time to get out an enjoy the river. Unfortunately we got on the river and realized we had left 2 cameras at the house so no pics this trip. Good times, though.
I must confess I am not familiar with the AuSable, are you guys running day trips or overnighters? I would love to hear more about the river, it looks stunning.

Sounds like you guys are enjoying some nice fishing out there... I have never been on the Snake, although everything I read seems to suggest it is nothing short of awesome. Hope to visit it someday soon.
Our hatches have been sporadic and tough to time this season so far - it's been hot and the summer set in quick this season. We usually have a nice Hex hatch that people come far and wide for - I am told it was tough to hit this year.
The AuSable is a great classic trout stream - you would likely enjoy fishing it (at least some part of it as it has a variety of water to choose from) We do not have the rapids and exciting whitewater here, but what it lacks in rowing excitement, it usually makes up for in good angling and terrific scenery.
It is also important to point out (for those who may not know) that Trout Unlimited was founded on the banks of the AuSable (1959) and has a rich history of conservation minded approaches to river management.

Since this is a "Fishing" post, check out some summer "steel" from a trip I took my buddy on Sunday. He was hooked up with his first steelhead after 15 minutes of fishing. I used my "hat cam" to capture some pretty impressive "leaps". Hope you enjoy the show.....

This is great footage Greg! That fish made some impressive runs and leaps - what a great experience. The "hat cam" works like a charm... is you camera the same style as those featured on that site?
