I have not used his, but saw them in his shop.  Beautiful oars -  fir.  I had him repair 3 of my Smokers.  Excellent work, very fair price.

I do not.  What he did was to cut a V where my Smokers had cracks, the he filled the V with epoxy and sanded the epoxy flush with the wooden oar blades.  It resulted in an as good as new set of three oars.  I thought he should have charged me more, but he wouldn't.  I do not remember the prices of his oars, but they were way less than Smokers.  You could call him for prices on new oars.  If you Google something like Oregon wooden oars, or oar repair, you'll get his number and location.  In a phone book his shop is listed in Creswell or Pleasant Hill.  It is less than 10 miles from Eugene.

There was an article on building oars a couple months back in "June 2015 Woodworkers Journal",

"A Northwood's Paddle" by Dan Cary. Location of this tradition is at the North House Folk School, on the shore of Lake Superior in Grand Marais, Minnesota.

Can be found at: www.woodworkersjournal.com and click on "More on the Web" under the magazine tab.

But anyways, the building of this oar was quite simple to follow.

It took me 3 days to cut and fold and glue and finish a very cool oar for my now gone Capri-13.

But it does help to actually have good wood laying on the shelves too.

Hope this does help all in their adventure to new oars.
