My March-April edition of WoodenBoat magazine arrived today and before I set the day's mail and orders down I dove into one of the featured articles, 'The Cataract Boats, Hardy Survivors of Norm Nevells's Grand Canyon expeditions (pp 38 -43)."  Not only does the article by Tom Haraden chart the to-brief river career of Norm Nevells and his boat, designed specifically for the Colorado, it also applauds the value of wood (even bad wood) as a source of boat durability and longevity. The author also quotes our own Brad Dimock regarding his 1994 old timers trip down the in a cataract replics, the BONNIE ANN. It is rare for this magazine to publish stories about white water boats. The first was in 1982 about Keith Steele's boats, my article in 1997 (issue #151, Oregon's early Drift Boats, A tale of two Rivers) and now this one. Nice job, Tom Haraden, wherever you are.
