Laminating Plywood

Hey guys,

Question. Is it a bad idea to laminate a piece of 1/2" ply to 1/4" ply to create 3/4" to use on a transom? Or should I just go get a 3/4" sheet and call it good. I have the half and quarter inch sheets but no 3/4 right now so I thought that might work. I was going to use some Raka to laminate the pieces.

Jason: No problem whatever. This is how Jason Cajune makes his famous curved transoms- laminates 1/4 sheets to get 3/4" I made a 3/4" bottom on a 17x56 Tracy O'Brien laminating 1/2" and 1/4". with a large area such as the bottom I drilled 1/16" holes in the 1/4" about 6-8 " on centers to allow the epoxy to weep up the holes and make a good bond to the 1/2". Then weighed the bottom down with lots of concrete blocks, tool boxes, buckets full of water to get a uniform load on the PW. With the small area of the tranome it will not require weep holes. As a cheap old skinflint I would do exactly as you propose rather than pay for a sheet of 3/4".
