oars and fairing compound

to those of you who saw my plywood oars I see now that it was not a good picture and will post another as time permits.Now onto a question.after glassing things up I need to fair out the glass cloth texture before paint.I was thinking of using leftover epoxy with cabosil to thicken it and avoid sagging.Does any body have any advice on this?Thankyou to every one for your responses.You are a great resource!-Dreu Patterson

A few more coats of epoxy rolled on and tipped with a foam brush will bury the glass cloth, that will give it thin coats and it wont sag much. If you buy a 3 pack of west rollers and cut them in half you`ll get 6 roller covers for about $7. You might want to experiment, some guys like to use a plastic spreader, (I liked the rollers myself) either way once its built up then it can be sanded smooth

Yes for thickening the epoxy cab, talc,wood flour etc will fill the weave using less epoxy.Sand when dry and paint.

For sanding, micro-balloons and a little cabosil extends the resin and will sand to a nice feathered edge.
