I inherited a wooden drift boat with some pretty bad sun and water damage . It was stored outside for two Idaho winters and the blue tarp over it didn't cut it for protection most of the damage was on the chine caps and and bottom. The previous owner used the polyester Evercoat resin on the bottom and wrapped it over the chine cap but he only went up the side about 2" so the damage occurred because the fiberglass pealed away and allowed water to leak down into the wood. I replaced the bottom with1/2" marine plywood and re did the chine cap the chine was in good shape I guess I rescued the boat  just in time. With the boat came  4 32 oz cans of Evercoat polyester resin and some glass of am an unknown weight. I float pretty mild rivers the green and the snake for example. My question is should I use the stuff I have or fork over the bucks for the epoxy?

polyester resin does not stick to wood very well at all, it wont last very long if you do it that way again. Epoxy is the only way to go, it will last a long time
Buy epoxy resin and fresh glass and toss out the poly resin and old glass. Protect your hard work and preserve your boat the best way possible. You'll never regret doing it right, even if it cost a few extra bucks.
Thanks guys I had a feeling that wasn't the right stuff. I guess I should have known because the previous use of the polyester resin failed. I am going to order some west system epoxy and some 20 oz glass and do it right.
You might want to check out raka epoxy, they have there own website you can order off of. They sell good stuff and its way cheaper than west system even with the shipping cost.
I bought all my epoxy for my boat from aero marine. Good fresh epoxy and a really good price as well.

The epoxy is the only way to go, never used polyester but I started with epoxy primarily because its very sticky to a lot of substances and doesn't have the obnoxious smell of polyester. I have been buying my resin and 3:1 hardener from uscomposites.com in Florida........ they have been charging me $36 a gallon for both, plus whatever the freight would amount to. Six or ten ounce cloth might bend around a chine better than 20 oz too. I recently bought a new-to-me cloth from them..... was called 1708 Biaxial, it goes around a corner like a dream.
