I have a new mostly unfinished wood boat from Steele Boats. It is beautiful. I plan a combination of paint and spar varnish on the outside and varnish on the inside. I'll probably apply marine epoxy on the outside prior to the other finishes (West Systems) My question is, does it make sense use it inside on the floor and chine as well? Does it add that much more protection? 20170826_135048.jpg I'm a little concerned about having to wash the inside after applying the epoxy. Any comments appreciated.
I would definitely use west with 207 on the floor followed by Spar Urethane, (System three is my favorite) or paint it. 207 is non blushing so no need to wash it. You don't want water soaking into the bottom. As for everything else on the inside, I like to use 2 or 3 coats of Penetrating epoxy before Varnish. If you put the Varnish on before the last coat of Penetrating Epoxy fully cures (about 24 hours) it really helps the Varnish stick.
