Recently, I had been considering/planning a new build of a dory for some offshore fishing. But what I really wanted was a bartender but they are just a lot more expensive to build. Long story short, I got turned on to a free one that has never seen the water, the build was never finished. Free is scary I know but supposedly the owner just wants to see someone finish it out, fix it up and use it. He has apparently given up on the idea of fishing and the boat.

The guy who told me about the hull, who has built some boats went over and took some pictures. The hull looks very sound. It needs repainting. It is only the interior of the boat that give me a little pause. There is some staining, discoloration and I thought I'd check in with some seasoned restoration folks here.

The hull is glassed and the interior is supposedly coated with epoxy but I don't know. Here's what the fellow who alerted me to the hull said though he acknowledged that he hadn't poked it much:

" . . .I think it's good, it could launch in a few days if you wanted...
But - I would scrape and paint and do a bang-up job on it, the potential is great. It has been neglegted but it is sound and new! never been in the water. Some TLC will do wonders. It is stained and dusty with spiders and all but I think it's good, really good for the price . . .

Thoughts? The vertical surfaces seem alot ccleaner and I'm not sure how much of what I'm looking at is discolration, how mch is water, how much is dirt, etc. Love to hear some feedback.

Wow.. that looks like a cool project, Karl!! Let me know how I can help. Do you have a "shop" lined up yet??
GH
My garage, I suppose. I have to figure out what to do w/ the driftboat though. Either find a storage place or someone west of me since steeleheading is approaching who wants to store it in exchange for anytime access except when I need it of course.

The garage will be be kinda tight but she'll fit at 19 ft.
