rope for seats

Hello all, I have been reading and learning a lot from this site, for several years now.  I came upon across it while doing research building my first drift boat, a Clark Fork Drifter, Paul Butler design.  After finishing that boat I dove right back in and began work on a Kingfisher, Jason Cajun design,  both boats are stitch and glue.

This is my first post.  Currently getting ready to assemble the first of three seats and have been having trouble finding a supplier of rope.  looking for 5/16" diameter, minimal stretch nylon (solid or multiply?), preferably black.  Can someone point me in the right direction?

Also, all of my hatches are wood and any suggestions/experience with latches and hinges would be welcome

I recall a few discussions on this and think folks found what you're looking for at Bi-Mart and GI Joes? I chose a cheap 3/8 rope from Home Depot, nylon, and while it looked good and I thought I had pulled it tight I found it just kept stretching. So after re-tightening it several times I scrapped the cheap rope and headed to West Marine to look for some options. I ended up with 3/8 rope that is used for sail rigging, almost no stretch at all. It was spendy, but every time I'm on the river I appreciate it!

If everything on a sailboat costs that much, I'm glad I built a drift boat.

Doug:  Hamilton Marine 1-800-639-2715  has what I have used for seats.  Its called Sta-Set Yacht braid. 2% stretch at 10% tensile strength.  From 1/4' to 3/8" runs from .42/ft to 1.00/ft.  Pricy but it has much lower stretch than nylon/poly.
