When Keith Steele was alive, he had a someone make slip-on padded covers for the guests' seat backs. These, along with a matching pad for the guests' bench seat, were available for purchase. Steve Steele, who is now building the famed Steele wooden driftboats, can't find anyone that he is pleased with to provide these cushions. Anybody in the Willamette Valley doing these?
I picked the foam when I placed the order and it was closed cell foam. Pretty sure the fabric is marine vinyl... has a leather look and feel to it but is water repellent. Nice thing about the slip cover concept is the foam can be removed and dried out easily...
Stan's Auto Upholstery is on Wilson St in Eugene.
Well, to complete the loop. I went to Stan's, as Greg suggested. He was right, they are spendy. I paid $260 for 3 seat backs slip-ons and 1 2" high quality foam bench seat. They look great; tomorrow is the field test. Going to fish Blue River to my place at Brown's Hole on the McKenzie.
Let us know how you like em. I called Stan's to get a ball park figure cost on the covers/seat. The cost you paid is the quote they gave me. Good luck out there today.
They are great. Having said that, I do think they are pretty spendy. The foam on the seatbacks is 1 inch; on the benchseat it is 2 inch. I had mine done in white for 2 reasons. First, it matches the white padding on the knee braces in the Steele boats. Second, it is cooler in the summer sun - see Greg's earlier post about black.
