Fellow Dory Men and Women,

I've scanned most all the Dory photos on this site, and have yet to see a good way to carry a spare wooden oar with you down the River. I know from rafting, that the authorities on the permited Rivers require you to carry a spare oar. Any ideas? Does a spare alum. break-apart make sense, since the blade pops off, and is easier to stow? Thanks in advance for any feed back,boats%20008.JPG or pics of what works for you!

Hal,

What if your rear support pivoted like an oar lock and was mounted behind the oar stop, could the blade end be picked up, dropped into the empty lock, raise the handle end out of the rear support and slide it into place ready to go? Just a thought from a green horn but it seems like it might be quicker and maybe could be done with one hand. Didn't think of it until I saw your pictures. Could be no ones doing it because it doesn't work, just a thought.

Gary,

As it sits right now, The rear support keeps things snug between the oar lock and the handle, which sits tight against a rib. I like the fact that this keeps it from "rattling around", but makes for a quick deploy when I grab mid-oar. Of course, I've not had it out on the water yet for an actual test, so I may be doing some mods, as un-anticipated things show up.Thanks for your input.   Hal
