Any advice would be great! Im stuck trying to figure out what to use for making my stem and stern posts. I want to use a 3"x 6" stock of white oak to cut them out of, for a final dimension of 2 1/2" x 5". But, I cannot find anything more than 2" thick. Is it acceptable to laminate two 2x6 pieces and fabricate from that? Or...is it okay to just make them a little skinnier (from 2x6 stock). I want to stick with the white oak to match the caps, rails, and chine.

Laminating two pieces together will actually be stronger than one piece and less subject to warping or cracking. Others more knowledgeable in boat building will need to reply on using narrower stock. I am surprised you can't find thick enough stock. Even here in Boise we have a place that specializes in hardwood and is willing to cut to size if required.
Thanks Jon. Ill have to do some more digging and asking around in my area. Good point about the advantages of laminating compared to one big hunk of wood.
Laminating is just fine. I've done it before.
