Working on the transom. Calls for 3/4 marine plywood. The question is can I glue and spline 4'' solid mahogany together to make the transom ?

Tyler:  Yes you can do it - but it will not be as strong as  PW.   The 4 inch strips will have lots of places in the glue lines to allow moisture to get in.  Keeping  all the strips flat and tight will take numerous clamps.

Why not take 3 sections of 1/4 inch PW and laminate them together.  It will be much stronger and have no chance to let water get into splined joints.  This is the way Jason makes his famous curved transoms- you might want to look at his website to see them .  A sheet of 1/4 inch will be much cheaper than 3/4 inch.

Good luck

Lawrence, thank you for the info. What is Jason web site ? Thinking I may glue a few 1/4 plywood up..Thanks Again.

Try montanaboatbuilders.com.  If it dosen't work for you let me know as I can pull up his info from the instruction manual on his Freestone Guide boat.   At the Wooden Boat School he instructed us on building a curved transom- beautiful but a real PITA  to build-

Good Luck
