Grew up in Bend Oregon and went to college at Southern Oregon State in Ashland Oregon. Did a day trip on the Rogue with the college outdoor program and got hooked on running white water. Bought a Campways Miwok and floated private trips on most of the Oregon rivers in the late 70's. Started guiding on the Main and Middle Fork Salmon in Idaho in 1982. Became a Middle Fork Salmon outfitter in 1986. My wife and I sold our Middle Fork company in 2010. I am now building drift boats and providing drift boat kits and accessories. My business is Wood River Boat Works.
Kurt, Bryan Sohl here. Thinking about you and your family a lot. My old drift boat, 22-23 years old now has a ton of dry rot, because I used it so much and left it outside during fishing season. A carpenter buddy of mine was going to take it on as a "remodel project" , but we could just stick a screwdriver through the wood in so many places. So I have gotten, with much sadness given the sentimental value of the old boat, a new boat, that is a Don Hill (much like a Taman, 17 1/2 x 54" , that I found nearly done on Craigs list , for $2000 . It is very good quality, not quite the same as the old boat. Interestingly , the boat looks a lot like this boat, that I can't believe I found had your name attached. I have a question. The guy who build it put a hole 2/3 of the way up the transom , like this, http://www.woodenboatpeople.com/photo/img-1382-1?context=latest , what do you think of that type of anchor system? Hope you and family are well. Have a hard time getting Rector to go fishing given his young kids, but I fish a lot with Gary Shelton who just moved to Jackson Hole. Take Care, Bryan
