Robert it is 7/8 inch thick cedar. And as long as you drill pilot holes before screwing/nailing the wood shouldn't spilt

Pretty thick frames.  What is the wood and what size?  I was worried about using 3/4 inch thick fir in my application - worried that I'd miss or split when attaching.  Thanks for posting images of your build.
