Yes, indeed. 'tis a very, thought provoking beverage. What would John Wesley Powell do? I guess beer in one hand and "direct" w/ what's left of his other limb. He pulled off 2, epic river trips w/one hand!

does anything get done on a river trip with both hands?  I recall always having a beverage in my left hand when there wasn't an oar in it.  Lubrication for the brain ;)

Exactly, The more rope, chocks, biners, etc. the better! I think dory boatman figured this out back when they had cooks along, so they could spend hours drinking, scratching heads, and basically fiddle-forking around with boats....

good reason to carry some old trad climbing gear in the rig bag!

Paul,

That's it, water flowing toward camera. It's basically a "y" configuration tie, from 2 pts. on the boat that "favors' kicking-out one end of the boat to the current. The "y"-tie leads to one line anchored to shore, and then you run a second-line off bow, anchored to shore, so to access pulling the boat to shore to get on/off. A passenger on a trip, year's ago, showed me this, and then Brad Dimock helped us "fine tune" it.

Very Cool, and you can, of course do it w/ the bow out to sea, as well, opposite the way we did it here.

I guess the water is flowing toward the camera so the boat is set up on a constant ferry angle with the bowline keeping it in place?  Cool setup!
