My dad, Ron Hayes, purchased this hull with money his wife, Betty, won at the horse races...$500...but dad did not own a trailer, so he transported the hull back to Los Angeles in the manner shown, which was too bad, because he drove her into a low-head solid oak beam at a filling station on the way south. This is a picture taken by Martin Litton at Martin's home in the San Francisco area. That's dad, barely visible in the back, looking at how Martin put water-tight hatches into his dory boats. Dad rowed a trip with Martin down the Canyon in 1967, but Martin told dad that if he wanted to do another trip with him, then he'd have to row his own dory, so dad built the Betty Boop from this hull...after taking about a year to fix the massive damage visible here. I like the ten pairs of oars in the back of the truck...all 8 footers!

Yeah Gus, the truck was sweet, and yes, the damage was bad...made Martin cry.  This photo was taken sometime in the fall of '67 or spring of '68.
