Well, your boat will be ready for anything, now!
Nope, no fishing out of the canoe. just a few cold beers and a nice, quiet, leisurely cruise down the river. Yes. I agree. It should be a law. Cedar Strip canoes for everyone. Maybe just a city ordinance?
I stuck with the plans and used 1/2" all around. Should have gone w/1/4" on the sides like you did. And,3/8" on the bottom as there is not very much boulder bashing in my area. Canoe? Standing flyfishing would be tricky for me. But I suppose everyone should have a cedar strip canoe.
If you stuck with the plans and used 1/2" or 3/8" ply for the sides, I can't imagine how heavy it is! I asked around on this site and the general consensus was that 1/4" would be fine. so I used that and my boat is still too heavy for one person to safely handle.
Next project will be a one person cedar strip canoe. Nice, easy, and light!
Yeah, my 16' is hard to get in and out of off the beaten path water. So my next will be smaller and lighter.
Yup. It's the 14'. Sadly I couldn't fit anything longer in my shop! But I'm happy with the way it turned out. thanks. :) Besides, any bigger and it would be a bear to handle on my river. Would love to build another sometime. We'll see!
It's the Yukon. 16'. Wow! I looked at your pics and the trout wagon looks awesome. Very nicely done. Is yours the Canadian 14'?
Sounds easier than what I did! The boat came out really nice. Which Spira did you make? How long is it?
Thanks Michael! It is a Spira. After snaping one, I soaked a towel in hot water and wrapped the chine. Let it sit for a little then gently bent.
That looks like a Spira transom. How in the heck to you persuade those chine logs to come together like that... and stay!? I tried and just gave up and redesigned the transom. Made it wider. Nice work!
