When we got to the notorious Picket Fence on Blossom Bar, this is what we saw. The raft didn't make the turn and got hung up in the fence. Notice the guy in black sitting on the rock holding up his busted up arm in a splint - he got pulled through the death chute and survived. Very Lucky.

Nah you looked pretty good for what was going on there. I run it slightly different in the driftboat then my raft. In my raft I am completely sideways entering at the top and as soon as my boat drops down that first little drop I am pulling like hell towards the eddy. Its similar in the driftboat, but the dirftboats move easier backwards, and I woudnt feel as comfortable having the driftboat all the way sideways like I do with the raft. I kinda think the lighter your boat is the more you can get away with as far as when you start pulling.

Now that I look at these pictures, I could've / should've started my set-up further left to start moving right even a little earlier...??? Oh well - have to go back and do it again!! and again. and again...

This is why this rapid is rated a 4 instead of a 3. Its a consequence rapid, if you don't make the pull, things get ugly fast. The whole key to making the cut is to set up early and slowly, getting into the eddy behind the horn rock and inching around it is key. I don't care how many times you run this rapid you need to always take it seriously.
