Trevor,

Sorry it's been a few days before I could respond. Ok so here's my take. I put the line-x on for the same reasons you want to. And they have preformed wonderfully. I can carefully get in the boat, float all day, carefully get and have no water in the bottom at all. Also, the stuff has been virtually indestructible. I say virtually because I did let a guy row one day on the Madison and he didn't know what he was doing and hit a rock as hard as you could without cracking the wood and the line-x peeled away a bit. Threw on some epoxy and good as new. Other than that, no problems at all. It rows fine, however it is a bit sticky on small river rocks like the kind you slide on when you are parking on a gravel bar, really not that big of a deal, but it is noticeable.

I guess the biggest thing for me was that I will probably build another boat, before I restore this one again. So I wanted this to be the last stuff I put on. When I build a new one I will not put the Line-X on the bottom. I probably will use the "Honeycomb Kevlar" bottoms that Jason from Montana Boat Builders uses. I have talked to quite a few guys on the South Fork of the Snake (my home water) that have it, including one guy that had Line-X and stripped it off to put on the Kevlar, and everyone loves it. I mean loves it. So I guess the question is do you think this is the last bottom you will put on?

I am happy with it on this boat and if I had to make the choice again, for this boat, I would do it. Good luck. I hope this was helpful, if you have anymore questions, please let me know I am happy to help.

Tight Lines,

Jesse

Jesse,
How is the line-x bottom holding up? I've got a 25 or so year old McKenzie that I'm in the process of restoring. I''m ready to put a bottom on and can't decide between glass or line-x. I've read and heard that line-x isn't a good choice for these boats but I want something that won't allow any leaks and is durable. Does it seem heavy and how does it row? Thanks for your comments.
Trevor
