Hi Matt, thanks. That was a magic evening for sure. That was this Fall (mid-September) doing what we have come to call the "night shift" on the upper Kenai River about two river miles down from the Russian River Ferry. The river splits into three right there where the boat is anchored. The picture was taken on a sunken island that splits the river in two at that river level. We have come to call this the "varsity hole". It holds a lot of big char and a few 'bows, too. Off to the right, out of the picture is the entrance to a braided side-channel called "trout alley" that fishes well, too! Choices, choices. That picture was taken at around 8:00 in the evening. Doing the night shift usually has us coming off the river after dark down at Jim's landing. We generally have this section all to ourselves, particularly on a weeknight. You see a lot of bears on the night shift, and as long as you row quietly you can go right by them and get some cool pictures, although, as you can see, the light is low then!
