I gave the chopped trapper to my son and outdoor loving daughter-in-law for a wedding gift. It was a total surprise which will see much use. It also floated and handled well. I'm certain they will catch many steelhead in the near future from it as well. And yes, it was a tough decision whether to keep it for myself or give it to them. I feel they will get more use out of it than me.

Alas the Chopped Trapper has seen white water. My son has caught several steelhead in the couple trips he's taken in the boat. Hoping to get a pic of the new wife's first fish from the boat soon.

Notice the short, cheap oars in the above picture? My son is anxious for me to build some nice ones. I told him I'm waiting for Michael Webb to post a tutorial on how he built the beautiful oars he built for his beautiful Stretched Trapper...lest I have to experiment on my own.

Very nice gift. 25 years ago my father-in-law gave "us" (him and I) a used wooden driftboat, after a few glasses of champagne at our wedding reception. I still have the boat and am in the process of refinishing it. We had a lot of good times together in this boat. He passed away last year and the driftboat means even more than it did on that wonderful rainy wedding night. Although my bride has only been in it a few times, we (my father-in-law) were able to use it as a "get away" - wooden driftboats capture the essence of time, true love, and often, keep us married even as we "drift" apart. That is a beautiful boat and I am sure that they will cherish it - I hope they and you find the memories that (we) have had. My wife, eventhough she enjoyed drifting downstream with me, probably - equally- enjoyed the peace and quiet that our boat brought when her father and I used it. Probably my mother-in-law would agree. Drifting apart is not a bad thing. Thanks for sharing the story.
