Hi everyone, I'm just getting started.  I've gathered all the tools, read Fletcher's book about 6 times (so great), and read quite a lot of these posts (also great).  I've decided to build a 17x54. …Continue

"I haven't been around here for a while.  Since I finished the boat I can't keep myself off the river.  Here's a couple pics of it that I haven't shared yet.  My mother in law made the boat cover, which was fun to…"

"Drilled off the nail heads which was easier than I expected it to be.  I also was able to remove the shanks using some pliers and carefully twisting/pulling.  There was definitely water trapped behind the rub strip, but the good news is…"

"If you decide to remove the rub strip, you'll find it fairly easy to mark the center of the nail head with a centerpunch and drill off the head - that way the rub strip will come off fairly undamaged. "

"Or it's probably getting in at that fastener.  Pull it, bore a larger hole, seal that with lifecaulk and a dowel."

"I need some advice.  I've only been on the river 6 times w/ my boat and just discovered this discoloration around one of the nails used to secure the rub strip.  I'm guessing water is getting in  behind the rub strip and…"

"Yesterday was a big day for me!   Launched my boat at Hayden Bridge on the McKenzie.  Which is the site of my first memory in a drift boat, fly fishing while my dad was rowing in 1979 when I was about 6 years old."

"Stainless Steel chine cap protection.  Not cheap.  I had to learn how to drill and counter sink Stainless Steel. "

About Me:
Fell in love with rivers as a small kid, fly fishing the McKenzie. Moved away from fishing and into whitewater rafting in my 30's where i honed my river running skills for the past 15 years. Now I'm ready put the two pieces together... fly fishing and river running, and I am one who believes there is no better way to float a river than a wooden drift boat. And so i've decided to build one, God willing.
Boats I own:
Just a Maravia raft currently
