Work continues on the DE w/ transom.. I was hoping to form the hull maybe this weekend, but it doesn't look like I will quite be ready. May have to put it off for a few as next weekend is PA opening day for trout which means backpacking, camping, and flyfishing in some remote spot where the rabble won't be able to find us.

In the mean time, I am doing just about my favoite thing in the world: listening to the Phillies on my old AM tube radio while block planing the massive chunk of wood that is to be the stem. Something about planing; standing ankle deep in curl and letting your mind wander while you shape something out is just awsome. It's one of the few woodworking activities besides sanding where you can really space out and not cause a major disaster (or lose a finger). And unlike sanding, it is actually pleasant and does not grind on my nerves. Something about slicing versus abrading?

Anyway, in between bouts of planing I'm also cutting and fitting the pieces for the two seats. I will do the final glue, screw, and trimming once the hull is formed and I'm sure of the final dimensions.

In the mean time, I will do a bunch of cutting that needs to be done: the sides, the sheer and chine rails, and the floor boards. That way I'll be able to push the saws off to the side in order to make some room for putting her all together

nice. I know very well how your hands feel right now. Take all those shavings and throw them in the fire. poof, they go!

Most outstanding work there... thanks for the post, I can almost smell the wood and hear the crackle of the a.m. radio.
