Heh heh... I just picked up a free boat to restore. 16X48. All wood... at least 20 years old according to previous owner, but no idea really. Built in Salem by a company named Ostrem Boats. I googled them and nothing! Everything seems to be good.. I could find no rot YET. It is painted inside and out.
It has some kind of plastic bottom over the plywood, I don't think it is UMHW, it is white. Plywood ends on top is coming apart a little. I will be asking lots of questions and begging for advise, I am sure. I found no punctures or repairs... there are scarfs in the side though, so it was after 16ft. plywood era.
I will try to add photos.. or put them in my photo area.
OH... I just figured out something... it has that plastic stuff on the transom to keep the anchor from banging on it... the anchor is in the boat... it looks like it WAS triangular with all the edges worn off. REALLY old.
hmmm that trailor is pretty wimpy... will have to do something about that.

With summer winding down, I decided I better get back to work on boat projects and tore into the old Ostrem and did find a bunch of rot.
It is all along the sides under the rub strip where water had got in between them and the sides... I took them off to get the sides to pull into the frames some more... seems as though the rot is in several frames too... way down low.
Not sure I have the expertise to fix this now :(
