Band Saw Scarf Jig
It's simple but effective and safer for smaller items like strips for gunnels and such. The wood piece is clamped to the taper jig and slides along a fence to cut the scarf.

So, do you end up dressing up both scarfed pieces with some other tool, or does the band saw give you glue-ready surfaces.? Nice tip, btw.

No other tool needed. Just a little sanding to clean up the fuzzies and you are ready for glue.

A good simple way to cut the scarfs. I assume your using a 1/2", 3 or 4 skip tooth blade, eh?

It's the 1/2 inch Wood Slicer blade from Highland Woodworking and is a variable 3-4 tpi. Good for re sawing too.
