I had a question for all of you who are running battry powered pumps to bail your dories. What kind of housing do you use for the battery. I have seen the housings on jamestown but they would appear to be weather-proof or splash-proof cartainly not water-proof. is water-proofing needed. What type of battery do you use that can withstand a flip while reatining the neccesary water. I have heard that batteries generate gas while charging is this true of when they are being used. If anyone has comment or photos of what they have done it would be appreciated. Thanks Jake

Several of us have been using steel ammo boxes. I have attached some photos.
WARNING!!!
A 100 AMP hours lead acid battery has enough power to melt steel. Double and triple check that the parts you make to isolate the terminals from the steel of the box can not fail. If you use a piece of rubber that sits on top of the battary, be certain it can't move.
Good luck and be very carefull.
