Howdy all, I have been snooping around this forum for the past couple years. During that time I've been building a 16' driftboat of, mostly, my own design, and with some clearly unconventional approaches. Now I am on the home stretch and am interested in sources anyone may have for anchor systems, specifically arrangements/hardware for bringing the anchor line through the transom. The boat's interior is laid out after some of Jason Cajune's boats, i.e. line running under the floor and helm seat. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance, and love this site!

You might consider using a "cam cleat" on the front of the seat between your legs to hold the anchor line. Jason used them as well as pulleys at the bottom of the transom and also at the point where the line went through the transom. My set up was similar except I used a curved section of copper pipe from the floor up the front of the transom. Had to do this as it passed through a watertight compartment under the rear seat. For cam cleats, etc try hamiltonmarine.com or jamestowndistributors.com or defender.com They have pulleys etc that are commonly used on sail boats. 'LeeLock' makes the cleanest looking lock for at your hand end,they may be able to help with a through the transom pully.If you take time to go through the photos on this site you will find many different set ups;then you could message the boat owner on this site.
Thanks fellas. I had planned on using a cam cleat at the rower's seat, but the stuff at Leelock is interesting, and new to me. I do have a copper pipe with a bend in it at the transom. Lawrence, have you had any issues with wear inside the pipe at that bend? I thought of that after installing it.

I built the boat in 2003 and since then has been on the Big Horn, Yellowstone, Dechutes,John Day and a few others. My son has not reported any issues- but I will check with him and report back. It dosen"t get the hard service that a pro(like AJ , Newman,etc) running 200 days a year would give it. I would think you would wear out the rope before the copper. Mud, sand etc should get washed off before it hits the bend. If I recall we used 5/8" line- easy on the hands.

The other source I could recommend would be the Dierks Anchor System David offers at the Don Hill Drift Boats site: Dierks Anchor Systems
They seem to focus more on side-release systems, but I really like the way all of their castings look on traditional wood boats . . . as opposed to sharp-edged machined and welded products.
Their jam cleat is really nice, and depending on the format of your rower's seat, the 'Sled Bow Roller with Jam Cleat' might work for you. It would be great to see pictures of your system.
I can second the Dierks anchor systems from Don Hill. I used a side pull anchor from them and their oar locks on my last project.
