I had no Idea this site existed until I was looking around for boat paint on the internet last night and came across wooden boat people. I had to instantly become a member due to the fact that it is drift boat oriented. So here I am. I am 3/4 of the way done with my first drift boat. I built it stitch and glue style from scratch. It is a 16' by 54" inch lowside drift skiff cross. I am to the point where I need to paint it but have no Idea what to use. I am planning on painting the outside white and I am planning on painting the inside as well. Does anyone have suggestions as far as outside or inside paint goes. I have heard you can use anything from deck or porch paint to $400 a gallon marine paints.

if you are going to use white I would use Interlux bright side. you can find out about it here *http://www.yachtpaint.com/usa/default.asp* . the reason that i would use bright side is because of its good UV protection, impact resistance, and easy cleaning. it costs more than a porch paint, but it wont fade and it wont stain or chip as easy.
Thanks Sanderson. I went to the website and there is a ton of good info. Just when you think you've gotten to the bottom of the internet another great website reveals itself. As I have never painted a drift boat before how much paint is needed for the exterior. They say a gallon will paint 300sq ft. Also what would you recommend painting the inside of the boat with?
Sherwin-Williams Duron paint. Relatively cheap and durable. Covers well. Easy to reapply. Looks good (unless you are going for the gelcoat smooth-as-glass look). My theory is paint it and go fishing. But that's just me. jb
Yeah I hear ya, I want the boat to magically paint itself so I can go to the Bighorn. Does the Duron Paint have UV protection?
you can download the entire interlux catalog as a pdf from their site, and print it out if you like. I like reading things on printed paper much more than a monitor....
Yeah I have looked around and read some articles, the web site is super informative but hard to read. The Interlux paint is relatively inexpensive as well.
