Yes...my boat has the 48 inch bottom. I use a 6hp long shaft motor. It moves the boat along fine for my needs. It will not get on plane though. Just enough to go upriver in a slow moving river....or across a big lake. The transom was not modified....I do take the motor off while trailering the boat....too much stress in my opinion.....especially on bumpy roads.
Thanks for the comments...Steve
Do you have the 16 footer with the 48" inch bottom?
What hp motor do you have? Long Shaft?
How does it go under power?
Did you modify the transom for the motor?
NIce looking boat. I know you enjoy it. jb
It seems like it should work just fine. Maybe I'll do that on my boat too. I don't know how to make it a push button option though unless you connected some sort of a release that would allow a bottom piece to move back and forth and then some sort of detent and spring would connect and stop it in place. It is fun to think about all the little tricks you could do. Most of which aren't really needed but fun to consider and plan out.
The DE is double ender. DET is double ender with transom.
Yeah, I'm not correct- My current build is a DET, 16x48.... my last build was a 14' "Trapper" (Kind of like a Rapid Robert) and the first was a DET.
I lust after a true double ender.... ah, someday.....Roger Fletchers book, if you don;t have it, you need it.... has all of these boats in it. The 16' and 13' DE are sweet rides. They look like waves themselves.
yeah, my boat is far from perfect, I actually like it that way, it looks even more homegrown. I want to build another boat but the funds are not there. I am just glad to have this one. I have never been up and fished the flathead river. I used to fish the lake for Macinaw as a youngster. We have so much water near Bozo that its hard to drive 5 hours. I do want to get up and fish the Kootenai near Libby though.
Thanks!! I just put her on the water a few days ago for the first time. She floats amazing. Its really cool to see the finished (almost) product on the water. It seems almost unreal that I have my own drift boat now and I built it from scratch for under $2000 bucks. Now i just need a trailer. Good luck with your MBB boat, they are beautiful, I have a few friends who own them.
I had a crazy gig in Charlotte for a year - worked in the sport of NASCAR (I'm sure you've heard of it!!) Man, those people love that sport in the Carolina's... had an office right across from the Speedway. There are some great rivers out here & the fishing is as good as the white water!! Good luck on the boat.
