I thought all river runners and avid anglers might be interested in what is being planned along the Green River.

A private entity is proposing to divert 250,000 acre feet of water from the Green River in Wyoming, East across the continental divide and onto the Front Range of Colorado. The pipeline will be 72" to 120" in diameter and will possibly have two intake points.

The first intake is 200 South of the edge of the Seedskadee Wildlife Preserve which is a 30 mile stretch along the Green River below the Fontinelle Dam. It is a prime wildlife viewing and fishing area. This diversion is above the Big Sandy Confluence which dumps very salinated water into the Green. The second intake is on the East side of the Flaming George Reservoir.

Possible effects of the project are the obvious decrease in river flows, the water volumes for the pipeline will most likely be a guaranteed volume. In years of drought, which most of Wyoming is currently in, river flows will be way down. The water will be increasingly salinated because the water would be taken above the Big Sandy Confluence, which will affect the wildlife. The Flaming George will have a decrease volume which will affect the world class fishing below the Flaming George Dam. Any water and wildlife along the Green River will be affected by the decrease in the volume.

The pipeline has no definite end users stated, and the water may be stored in new reservoirs in Colorado. I urge anyone with comments about the project to follow the link below and let your voice be heard. This project will not only affect the people in Wyoming, but those who enjoy the Green River. Rumor is this company has tried this same project along the Platte River and others in Western Wyoming, but was denied. I suggest people band together and try to prevent this project along the Green River.

Thanks,
Geno

This is starting to look hopeless.

For years now the Colorado River system which drains thousands of miles has not placed 1 drop into the ocean.

There is no water left for anyone to take out. As much as I hate to say this I hope California can prevent anyone taking the water they are getting. How sad is that?

Wyoming wants a new pipeline. Colorado wants to take water out of the Yampa. Utah wants to build a power plant on the river at Green River City. We mix coal with water so we can pump it up hill. All this while there is no water left. Lake Powel and Mead are already down 100 feet and continue to fall. The system doesn't even generate any net power if you take into account how much power is used to pump the water up hill and all over the place. How stupid are these people? No wonder we have a national debt of

11,500,000,000,000.00 dollars.

Some times I think we should let the whole system go under and pay the price for our consumption.

At the low flow of 850 CFS we can hardly float to Little Hole now. I have had the rare privilege of 2 trips down the Colorado river through the Grand Canyon. Sadly in just a few years there won't be enough water for others to do the same. The will only be able to bump and grind over the rocks.

How much is grass worth? It's time for all states to stop asking for more water. In fact I suggest that ALL states should give up 5 percent of what they take now in the next 5 years and move that to 10 percent after that.

People everywhere, understand there is no more water left in the Colorado system. Sure I want to keep fishing and floating on the rivers but, that's not the issue at this point. Every drop is already taken. There is nothing left. The philosophy of John Maynard Keynes does not work with water. We can't print water the way we print money.
