Another thing I have tried to investigate is adding teflon to the bottom epoxy coating rather than graphite. I have tried a few times to find a source with no luck. I really dont know what form teflon is added to the paint on a fry pans but my thought is if we can find a teflon powder to add to the epoxy it might be a much better choice than graphite as far as being slippery goes
Google "teflon powder coat" You'll get all you want. I suspect, though the sources are mostly large manufacturers and not retailers. Might get lucky.........
I found a few powders on Ebay that are not too expensive. This too may require some testing.
Thanks on the idea. I had looked into this on the net many years ago, probably mid 90's, and I swear i couldn't find anything to speak of. Now there is no end to the links. Must just be I was looking before the net really took over. In addition to powders I see there are also PTFE plastic sheet goods. I am going to check into these a little more but the thought occurs perhaps the sheets might be both tough enough to withstand the rigors of a skid shoe and lack the huge expansion rate of UHMW. One website I found mention's a boat builder using their powder but I think it might have been for a regular interior paint solution for easy cleaning... which might not be a bad idea either.
