UHMW is the shoe and you should use 1/4 inch.

There are some very thin UHMW products that can be attached to a shoe. They are a film made for the snow board industry.  When tried on drift boats they have proven too thin to withstand the weight. Scratches can penetrate the film. 

 

1/8 in UHMW will buckle as it expands and contracts causing too many extra ripples. 

 

1/4 inch is the proven compromise. It is very slick and tough.  It is a wonderful performing shoe; however, it requires a close eye to prevent rot.
