An All Around Wooden Drift Boat

  After searching through all the wooden drift boat pictures I could find, I wasn't able to see exactly what I had in mind concerning a removable rear casting brace system.  After weeks of fretting and obsessing, I designed my own plan.  I wanted something that could go from a fly-fishing trip with a person in the front and back of the boat, to a whitewater float trip with minimal effort to change over.  So, it had to be removable, light weight and comfortable.  I have always been very picky on how my boat handles and works.  So far, I am pleased with the outcome of my design.  I will know more once this spring's steelhead season is underway.  I have more pictures of the finished product on my page under the album titled Luke's Boat.  I've really enjoyed this site and am pleased to now be a part of it.  And, I've definitely learned a lot, especially since this is my first go 'round with a wooden boat.  They say that my trusty old aluminum boat will acquire some dust once I run a wooden drift boat.

I had a similar idea with wanting to be able to easily switch around set ups. I took the easy way out though, using an NRS rear casting brace attached to a foot bar I had bent for an old raft frame. Its also supported by a brace on the back of the rowing seat. It can be taken out by simply removing the bolts from the LoPro. Not wood, but works very well and is super quick and easy to switch around set ups.

Luke, looks pretty darn nice! Keep posting pictures and especially letting us know how the season's going and how the boat handles.
