The weather around here has been a bit unpredictable as of late.

For those of you who do not reside in the northeast, it has gone something like this: real warm weather (like high 80's) early in the spring (like late march/early april) and then cold...real cold. Around here, 32 degrees in early May is pretty rough - I'm glad I haven't had the time to plant my garden yet.

Needless to say, after warming up following the chill of winter, we have become sissies again and the cold is not very welcome. Now, you may be thinking; stop complaining and/or turn the heat on you cheapscate; however, the truth is that it's more complicated than that. You see, our fuel source (40 lb bags of wood pellets) has become an intergal part of my boat building activities. Good thing I bought extra!

While it is somewhat sad to see my family cold at times in this inclement weather, I can't feel too sorry for them; after all the do have the enviable option of helping to sand the hull and the newly secured bottom (you'd be suprised how appealing sanding becomes when your cold). Put another sweatshirt on kiddies - Daddy's got a boat to build...Needless to say, I expect the "take" on father's day this year to be rather slim.

As the weather seemed to get weirder, things only got worse. Comming home from work the other night, my wife called me from the basement with the kids - apparently there was a tornado warning and police were driving around warning people to take cover (FYI, this is REALLY unheard of (and unnerving for folks in eastern PA). When I asked her how she got the boat out of the garage and safely into the basement, I barely got a chuckle. I mean, after all, it was a joke, kinda. Funny I guess; but not ha ha funny.

Maybe for the sake of everyone in the Greenleaf family, Daddy needs a short break from this boat stuff. One weekend ought to be enough; time to go fishing and play with the kiddies. Just as soon as I seal the endgrain with some epoxy.. then when I return it's on to laying the fabrics. Hopefully I also have some good fish pictures to post upon my return. Unfortunately, I'm so out of practice after spending most weekends in the garage, it is far from a sure bet. Now where did I put that fly rod?

They should have just hunkered down under your boat! If it can withstand the rapids of Eastern PA it should be able to withstand a tornado! Good work, oh yeah and your boat looks good too!

i enjoy your writing and humor, I hope you enjoy mine too. I look forward to seeing the continuation of your boat build.

Happy Waves to You,

Rick Newman
