I'm just curious what it means to "make so and so a friend" in wordpress.
For Facebook (which I don't belong to) I think it means "friends can see my
profile information, but the public cannot."

But in wordpress it seems like I can see the profile info for all members
anyway. So what does "friends" mean.......just tryna figger it all out.

Thanks Randy. I'm just trying to get my head around this stuff.
Social networking has changed everything, it seems. Good stuff.
Your site is well done. You can tell the users like it and use it frequently.

You are correct about Facebook. The functionality on this site is different.

This isn't actually WordPress. I used Wordpress and a plug in called WP-Remix 2.0 to build my Tatman Wooden Boats site.

This site is powered by NING, a social online software package. On NING friends is a collection of people that you communicate with most often. If you go to the MY PAGE tab you can select the tab MY FRIENDS and then you have an option to send an email to ALL MY FRIENDS. It is one way the NING supports sub-groups in the network. That's a lot of work for one little feature but sometimes you want to shoot out an announcement to your friends that you might not want to bother the entire membership with.

The other way to support sub-groups is to create a GROUP. The GROUP can be password protected or not and the administrator of the group can maintain the member list.
