yes it folds down, and you can set in the back as well. i think that this will make a good alternative to the fish rite seats in wooden boats.

That looks pretty cool! Does the back fold down? It looks like it is hinged. I love the rope seat - it's funny because people out here are often asking "why is the seat made of ropes" when I show them an image of a drift boat...
