Hello John,
I just joined the forum yesterday!
Guess I was born with saw dust in crib as my dad was building one of his racing hydroplanes in the room I was in.
The Port Ludlow Fly Fishing Pram was the result of 1) getting older, 2) not liking to be sounded by cold water all day and having a small blader 3) fellow Culb members asking me to design a boat for them.
I wanted the boat to be light weight, reguire minmum of curved cuts to be make in construction, and the be a stable platform to fly fish from on the water.
This was achived by resorting to the clasic pram design for lateral stability with a hard chine.
The prams ,enpty weigh around 65 lbs, have a 47 inch beam on the water line. loaded they draw about 4 inches of water. With a 40 trust electric motor and a car battery we can fish all day and come at slow run.
I have made nistakes in some and that was trying to save money by constucting then from marine grade df plywood. It dries out and the wood checks and must be filled. The prams constructed from Okumue ply have shown no checking in 10 years of use.
There are about 14 of these prams that are being used today that I know of. They are scatted from the Olympic Penninsula to Medford Oregon.
I estmate the cost of building pram using good materials to be a little less than 500 dollars at todays prices.
