I'm having a hard time deciding whether or not to paint the outside with the Blue Toplac or go with the original finish. If I go with the original finish as the pictures show, I'm not quite sure how to duplicate the darker border. It is sanded down to bare wood now. Any thoughts? I'm kinda leaning towards the natural wood look as I have a hard time committing to paint
I went with paint for the ease of maintenance; my boat is 30+ years old. However, the wood on your boat looks great. I would go with an oil finish again for the ease of maintenance. If you use a light oil it will pick up the hues of the darker wood on the boat on its own.
I can't tell from the photos. The two tone finish is awesome. Is it paint and bright, or is it stain and bright. Probably some kind of paint. Hard to say from the pics. Does your dad know, if I remember right that's where you got the boat wasn't it?
Yeah, dad says it was a rub on stain but he doesn't remember the specifics. So I think it's just the stain with varnish over the top and just varnish where the lighter wood is. What's peoples opinion on Man O War Varnish and do you use the gloss semi gloss? It's cheaper but sometimes that isn't a good thing. I think I will try and get a darker stain on there then varnish over the top and just varnish the middle where it's lighter.
